Welcome to Module 9, The CGDI in Action.

Throughout its development, the vision of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) has been to establish a Canadian geospatial information infrastructure that is accessible to all communities, pervasive throughout our country, ubiquitous for it users and self-sustaining, in order to support the protection and betterment of Canada’s health, social, cultural, economic and natural resource heritage and future.

In this module, you will see how this vision has quickly evolved to reality, with examples of the “CGDI in action” in various sectors, including:

• A web-based application that tracks diseases among Canadian marine animals;
• A “Government On-Line” project that consolidates dispersed forestry-related information; and
• A map-based conferencing system that assists emergency response efforts.

You will also learn about your role in making the CGDI a continuing success as the principal source for geospatial resources in Canada.
