How do I Implement a WFS?

To implement a WFS:

  1. Read the OpenGIS® Web Feature Service Implementation Specification.

An overview of the WFS is available on the GeoConnections website.

Familiarize yourself with the OpenGIS® Web Map Server and Web Feature Server Cookbooks.

  2. Choose and acquire OGC-compliant software to implement the specification. Click for a current list of OGC-compliant software applications.

  3. Configure your software to deploy your web feature service.

Note

You must be very careful when you enable transactions on a WFS. This allows the manipulation of raw feature data through the Web.
