Testing your connection
Once you have published your data product, installed a search server
and connected it to a discovery mechanism, you should test your
connection to make sure it works. All you need to do is perform
a search on your own data product. If you are able to find your
own data, others will be able to discover your data as well: you
are connected!
You can test your connection in the GeoConnections Discovery Portal
by following these 3 steps.
|
 |
1. |
Go to the GeoConnections Discovery Portal web site
at http://geodiscover.cgdi.ca
and select Find Data.
|
 |
2. |
Specify the Location, Subject, and Keywords
that match your data and click on Search.

|
 |
3. |
Verify that the Data Search Results include your data
product.

|
If your data product does not appear in the results,
start at the beginning to verify that you have not missed steps
in the process.
|
 |
a. |
If the search server is defined for your data product, you should
see a check-box in a column labeled Search Databases.
|
 |
b. |
Select the check-box, and press Search Databases. The
GeoConnections Discovery Portal should connect to your search server,
send the search query and gradually receive results back.
|
| If the search was successful, it should indicate how
many results were retrieved. Select View Results to see which
individual products matched the search query. You can view the full
metadata record for any product by selecting the Details button,
or if there are access mechanisms defined for a product (in the online
linkage field), you may see one of an Access button, a Download
button, or an Order check-box. |
