Welcome to Module 1, an Introduction to CGDI Online Training.

The Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) is the technology, standards, access systems and protocols necessary to harmonize all of Canada’s geospatial databases, and make them available on the Internet. The CGDI is facilitated by GeoConnections, a national partnership initiative, led by Natural Resources Canada, in partnership with federal, provincial, territorial and private sector partners.

This online course is designed to introduce you to the various components of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure, their functionality, and the standards and specifications necessary to implement them. The course is divided into modules, each of which corresponds to a different element of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.

The online format makes it possible for you to decide when, where and how you would like the training to happen. You can tailor the course to your needs and preferences: you can choose to follow the modules sequentially, or begin with those of most interest to you. Each module contains enough information for you to gain a good grasp of its topic, and can be read as a “stand-alone” summary of a particular component of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure.

This CGDI online training allows you to control the pace of your learning. Each module should take you between 20 and 30 minutes to complete. By devoting just half an hour a day to this learning activity, you can complete the training in a very short period, at the time and place of your choosing.
