Project Outcome

Commercialization. The project results in a commercial product called GeoServNet (GSN). The corporate marketing plan for this product has been developed and been further improved during the project. GSN 3D Explorer will be marketed as an innovative tool that offers 3D and 2D web-centric visualization and analysis to geo communities. The target markets are defence, emergency response, government, oil and gas, forestry and telecommunication.

Deployment. This tool will be deployed for two principal partners, Department of National Defence and Natural Resources Canada.

Integration and demonstration. The tool has been used in one major defence experiment , the Joint Interoperability Warrior Demonstration (JWID 04) which included a demonstration of the COP 21 Situation Awareness Portal and involved the Department of National Defence, the US Defence, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) (formerly NIMA), Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), as well as other coalition partners.

The product GSN 3D Explorer, includes two client components: GSN Globe and GSN Analyst.

GSN Globe allows users to visualize, access and explore anywhere of the world in 3D over the Internet. The tool is developed for global (coarse) to local (fine) -scale image, digital elevation model (DEM) and vector 3D visualization. The current implementation is capable of accessing a variety of world-wide coverage satellite and photogrammetry imagery and DEM data. This ranges from global-level imagery from the NASA, to medium-resolution Canadian imagery coverage from the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), to one meter high resolution imagery from the Spacing Image etc commercial data vendors.

GSN Analyst

GSN Analyst allows users to perform on-demand 3D analysis of geospatial data. Many 3D analysis functions are supported such as, flooding, terrain profiling, line of sight etc. The implementation of GSN Analyst is flexible in the sense that this component can either act as an independent terrain analysis tool, or can be integrated with Globe for global-to-local scale roaming and interactive terrain analysis.
