Technical Benefit

Implementation of GeoServNet (GSN) requires the integration of many cutting edge technologies, from high performance 3D visualization to fast data transmission over networks to highly efficient web computing. This is the first Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) client software that is able to access, simultaneously, three major data types (vector, raster and digital elevation model) via Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Map Service (WMS), Web Coverage Service (WCS) and Web Feature Service (WFS) servers in 3D. The key technical significance is the internal data structure of GSN 3D Explorer which is multi-dimensional and is built based on the Geography Markup Language (GML) conformant OGC Simple Feature Specification (SFS). Thus the tool can be implemented and expanded to handle advanced GML manipulation, editing, and analysis.
