The GeoInnovations project has allowed Consultants TGIS to develop a new tool for real-time collaboration with geospatial information: the GeoConference product. It will form the basis of customizations forclients in many domains, starting with emergency management. We expect to use it to develop a series of new applications in areas that can benefit from teleconferencing with geospatial information.
In the near and middle term, three opportunities based on GeoConference and its components are presently in view:
► In the very short term, DOTSC has asked Consultants TGIS to support implementation of GeoConference for trials in an operational setting. Work will include installation, support and customization of the product. In the longer term, it is expected that trial will lead to larger modifications to integrate GeoConference with DOTSC’s SyGIG.
► NHIS is presently considering the adoption and modification of GeoConference client and server components to as part of a system to fulfill its emergency mapping mandates.
► TGIS, in partnership with DOTSC and other collaborators, is developing an application of satellite radar imagery to river ice monitoring and related flooding, in which GeoConference will be the essential link between ground observation and image processing and interpretation. It will also provide a link between the scientific/engineering advisory body, the interventions group, and strategic decision-makers.
