Architecture for Situational Awareness Systems Available

November 13 2008

GeoConnections is pleased to make available the architecture for a multi-agency collaboration system for situational awareness. With support from GeoConnections, Public Safety Canada is leading an initiative to develop, design and implement a system to share and provide access to geospatial situational awareness information across multiple organizational domains. The architecture is the blueprint by which the future multi-agency system will be built.

The architecture describes a network of systems designed to help emergency management organizations (EMOs) better respond to emergencies. The network will integrate provincial and territorial emergency management systems into a system of systems, without compromising a province's or territory's control of its own data.

Requirements for the architecture were gathered from interviews with representatives from federal, provincial and territorial emergency management organizations (EMOs). The architecture will inform collaborators on requirements and system design at a high enough level that allows an implementer to "plug and play" into the multi-agency system from their own system.

The first version of the system architecture has been completed and can be found on the GeoConnections website here.
