New GeoConnections web site mirrors progress in building the CGDI

Recurring visitors to GeoConnections.org will notice that much has changed on the GeoConnections web site.

Since the launch of GeoConnections in 1999, our partners have made significant strides in building the CGDI. As a result, our existing web site had grown to the point that it was difficult to navigate, not to mention unwieldy to manage. At the midpoint of our mandate, we felt the time had come to redesign the old web site and adopt some of the new technologies currently available.

The revamped web site includes all of the program and committee information used routinely by our partners, but also incorporates four new categories that will enable businesses, governments, students and citizens to find maps, data, services and project information more easily than ever before. Our goal is to provide Canadians with ready access to geospatial information, afterall!

Another section–Success Stories– has been added to the site to highlight some of the new services and applications contributing to the growth of the CGDI. This section showcases projects undertaken largely by Canada's geomatics sector and its partners and co-funded by GeoConnections.

The amount of information in these new categories and throughout the entire site will continue to grow as GeoConnections and its partners make further strides in developing the CGDI, so please come back often. And feel free to send us your questions, comments and recommendations regarding the new site!
