Explanation of Service Specification Status Levels

The GeoConnections Technology Advisory Panel (TAP) evaluates and endorses technical standards and specifications to be implemented in the CGDI, based on the recommendations of its subcommittee, the CGDI Architecture Working Group (CAWG).

Endorsed specifications

  • These specifications MUST BE USED in order to provide functionality compliant with the CGDI.
  • These specifications are mature, and they may be broadly implemented.

Recommendation papers

  • These specifications SHOULD BE USED in order to provide functionality compliant with the CGDI.
  • These specifications are mature, and they may be broadly implemented, but TAP endorsement is pending final approval at Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

Discussion papers

  • These specifications SHOULD BE CONSIDERED if the addressed functionality is required.
  • These specifications are fully functional, and there is normally at least one reference implementation, but significant refinement may still occur as the specification matures.

Under investigation. (Other ideas)

  • These are other specifications that might be required in order to complete the full suite of functionality envisaged for the CGDI.
  • These specifications HAVE NOT BEEN RECOMMENDED by either TAP or CGDI Architecture Working Group (CAWG).
  • These specifications may not be mature or ready to use.
