Enabling Forest Licensee Access to Natural Resource Sector Data
This project will load and provide access to relevant natural resources data through the existing province-wide spatial data warehouse. This natural resources data is necessary to prepare forest-harvesting plans—prerequisites for receiving B.C. forestry licenses.
Mandated by B.C.'s Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) and the province's Forest and Range Practises Act (FRPA), these harvesting plans require information from various agencies—information that potential licensees have had trouble accessing to date. This project will see the Integrated Land Management Bureau of the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture and Lands work with the B.C. Ministry of Forests and Range, Ministry of Environment, and Ministry of Tourism's data custodians to configure access to data required in support of both the FSP and FRPA.
A single point of access for natural resources data through the warehouse will not only improve data access, but also assure stakeholders that data is both authoritative and current. Potential licensees will also gain a single suite of tools to discover, view, and access all the data required for their analyses.
The project will enhance the CGDI by making more data available to the resource
industry in B.C. And Canadians will benefit both economically and recreationally
from improved forest stewardship.
