Web-based Integration of National Cartographic and Geodetic Reference Layers
This project will create a service to give users access to integrated layers of cartographic and geodetic information on the Web. By incorporating real-time GPS information, the new service will also increase the overall accuracy of the data. The service will operate in a two-way mode- cartographic and geodetic data will flow to and from the remote user. For instance, once remote users receive their requested information, they will be able to send time-stamped feedback to the data providers about any discrepancies. The project will also provide an opportunity to test emerging technologies, especially wireless communications. As well, the service will present Canadian geospatial data users with a solid resource for accessing federal geographic data. Overall, this single source of combined information will mean greater convenience for users, greater accuracy and faster updating for data providers, and savings in time and money for both. There is also the potential for other public- and private-sector data providers to join the framework by adding layers of information concerning the environment, forestry, mineral extraction and other related fields.
