York Region to enhance YorkExplorer
This project will allow the public and organizations, including nine local York Region municipalities, to access geospatial information provided by the York Region Geomatics Branch.
With funding from GeoConnections, York Region Geomatics will enhance access to geospatial information and Internet mapping services by linking to the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI) and incorporating CGDI-compatible standards and specifications such as the Open Geospatial Consortium's web mapping services. The project will evolve York Region's Internet mapping service, YorkExplorer, towards a geographic information discovery and exchange site. Other levels of government, as well as the public, will be able to browse published metadata over the Internet and connect to the York Region's published map services. (Metadata or "data about data" describe the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of data and therefore make finding data easier.)
